Did you know that there are ways you can prepare for your hair appointment? The cleanliness of your hair, what you wear, and other factors can affect how pleasant your appointment is. A hair cut, color, or style should be relaxing and enjoyable. If you have an upcoming appointment, follow these tips to ensure a positive experience. Not only will you enjoy your time, but your stylist will thank you for being ready!

  1. Wash your hair 24-48 hours prior to your appointment. It is important to arrive to your appointment with clean hair, but we do not recommend washing it the day of. It is a common misconception in the hair community that color holds onto dirty hair better than clean hair. Some natural oils will protect your scalp from irritation caused by the dye, but excessively greasy hair is difficult to color. Be sure your hair is 100% dry and detangled before you arrive at your local hair salon.
  2. Wear comfortable clothing to the NJ hair salon. As you may already know, some hair appointments can last several hours. We recommend wearing something you will be comfortable in to sit for hours at a time. Avoid wearing hooded sweatshirts, especially if you plan on getting a haircut. The hood of the sweatshirt can affect how your hair lays and create a challenge for your NJ hair stylist.
  3. Bring reference photos to your appointment. It is important to understand that photos are great for inspiration, but your stylist may not be able to directly replicate the color or style shown. Photos allow your stylist to get an idea of what you are looking for, especially if you’re making a big change or if it is the first appointment with a new hair dye stylist. Understand that drastic changes in color can require multiple appointments, so be realistic with your expectations.
  4. Check your hair products. Before leaving your house for your appointment, check to see if any of your favorite products are running low. The key to hair success is using salon-grade products regularly. We recommend Oribe hair products, especially Oribe shampoo and conditioner. Ask your local hairdresser for recommendations of products that work best for your hair type, cut, and style.
  5. Allow for plenty of time for your appointment. Magic takes time, so budget enough time into your schedule to allow your stylist to work. If you have to be somewhere at a certain time, let your stylist know before they begin. That way, they will make sure you’re out in time or they will make adjustments accordingly. When you book your appointment, your stylist should be able to provide you with an estimate for how long the session will take.
